  4. Heroin ring busted in Oakland after two years of investigation

    OAKLAND–Federal and local law enforcement officials simultaneously raided 26 locations in Oakland early Wednesday, arresting 30 people and confiscating an estimated $1 million in drugs. The raids were the result of a two-year joint operation involving the Oakland Police and the FBI, IRS, DEA and San Francisco Police, culminating in the indictment of numerous members of a local heroin ring.

  5. Private security patrols College Avenue

    Rockridge shoppers are used to private security guards patrolling College Avenue during the heights of the holiday frenzy. But this year, the security patrols came out a lot earlier. The Rockridge District Association hired two private guards in late August to patrol College Avenue by bike from Alcatraz Avenue to Broadway, five afternoons a week.
